Electrical supplies, electric pumps and cables

I.M.E.C. stocks three product families. This page explains what each one covers and which details to prepare so you order the right item first time.

Stock changes from week to week, so we do not publish an online price list. For a specific code or a quote, call +39 0187 621350 or email info@imecsrl.com.

Electrical supplies

This is the widest family. The brands we stock cover these product groups:

GroupTypical itemsBrands
Wiring devicesFlush-mounted switches, sockets, modules and cover platesBTicino, Vimar, Legrand
Distribution and protectionConsumer units, enclosures, junction boxes, circuit protectionGewiss

For wiring devices, the detail people forget is the range already installed, and its colour. Different ranges from the same manufacturer use frames and cover plates that do not fit each other.

Electric pumps: the figures you need

A badly chosen pump runs away from its best efficiency point, uses more power and wears out sooner. To recommend the right model we need:

  • Application. A submersible borehole pump for a well, a submersible drainage pump for clean or dirty water, a pressure booster set for a household supply, or a surface pump for irrigation.
  • Flow. How much water you need, in litres per minute or cubic metres per hour.
  • Head. The total height to overcome, in metres: the rise from the water level to the highest outlet, plus pipe losses and the pressure you want at the tap.
  • Power supply. 230 V single-phase or 400 V three-phase, and the power available on your meter.
  • For wells. The inside diameter of the well casing and the depth of the water level.

With those five figures the choice narrows to a handful of models. If you are replacing an existing pump, its rating plate shows the flow, head and power: take a photo and send it to us.

Cables: cross-section, type and fire class

To order cable we need the type (single-core or multi-core, sheathed or not), the number of cores, the cross-section in mm² and the length. Since 1 July 2017, under the EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR, Regulation 305/2011), cable installed permanently in buildings must also carry a fire-performance class suited to the location.

In Italy, standard CEI UNEL 35016 sets a minimum class for each type of location. In simplified form:

Minimum classTypical locations
B2ca-s1a,d1,a1Airports, railway and ferry stations, underground railways, long road and rail tunnels
Cca-s1b,d1,a1Healthcare buildings, schools, hotels, theatres and cinemas, large offices and other crowded places
Cca-s3,d1,a3Other activities subject to fire-brigade inspection, and buildings with a fire risk
EcaInstallations with no specific fire risk, such as an ordinary home
Please note: this table is a guide, not a design. The class to use is decided by the designer or installer under standard CEI 64-8 and the current edition of CEI UNEL 35016. The standards are published by the Italian Electrotechnical Committee (CEI).

When you order, tell us where the cable is going along with the size and length: we will offer cable in the correct class, not an over-specified one that costs more for no reason.
